Van Hollen, Alsobrooks, Mfume, Olszewski to Highlight $9.7 Million in Federal Funding Secured for Morgan State University’s Research Centers

WASHINGTON – On Monday, May 18, 2026, U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks and Congressmen Kweisi Mfume and Johnny Olszewski (all D-Md.) will be in Baltimore to highlight $9,700,000 in Fiscal Year 2026 Congressionally Directed Spending they fought to deliver to support research programs at Morgan State University and to expand violence intervention and prevention services at the Center for Hope.

At 2:00 p.m., Senators Van Hollen and Alsobrooks will visit Morgan State University for a press conference to highlight $8,900,000 in direct federal funding they secured to support the University’s research centers and laboratories. Of that total, $5,500,000 will go toward constructing and equipping a new, cutting-edge microbiology lab that will conduct research on chronic health issues and train the future biomedical workforce. The remaining $3,400,000 will be used to acquire additional equipment for the Center for Education and Research in Microelectronics. The lawmakers will tour the microbiology lab and present President David Wilson with a ceremonial check marking the delivery of the funding.
