The School of Graduate Studies is excited to invite you to Workshop #1 in the From Data to Story: How to Effectively Communicate Your Science series, taking place on Wednesday, February 4th, from 4:00–5:30 PM via Zoom. This session will be facilitated by Dr. Doug Dluzen.

This workshop is part of Track 1, which focuses on building strong, broad science‑communication skills. Workshops 1 and 2 emphasize how to craft compelling 1‑minute research pitches and 3‑minute research overviews—perfect preparation for presentations, public engagement, and the 3MT (Three Minute Thesis) competition.

Workshop #1 Objectives

Participants will learn how to:

• Identify the core message of their research for non‑specialist audiences
• Clearly and concisely articulate complex scientific concepts
• Structure a 1‑minute pitch that highlights significance, clarity, and impact
• Apply storytelling strategies to enhance research communication
• Build confidence in presenting research in short‑format settings
