DESCRIPTION:Frances Ellen Watkins Harper was the most popular Black poet of
  the 19th century\, the first Black women in America to publish a novel\, a
 nd a speaker at the 1873 “Colored Convention” held in Dover\, Delaware\, on
 e of a series of meetings held across the nation to discuss equal rights\, 
 and educational and economic opportunities for Black Americans. \n\nThis vi
 brant perforance-- written and directed by Lynette Overby\, PhD\, Professor
  Emeritus from the University of Delaware-- celebrates the life and legacy 
 of the writer\, activist and trailblazer for whom one of MSU's residence ha
 lls is named  [Harper-Tubman House].  Dr. Overby is also artistic director 
 of the Sharing Our Legacy Dance Theatre.\n\nFrances Harper’s inspiring lega
 cy is celebrated at the Murphy Fine Art Center on Thursday\, February 12 (a
 t 11:00 AM) with a landmark performance of The Artistry and Activism of Fra
 nces Harper\, which brings together performers\, singers and dancers to com
 memorate the 200th anniversary of Harper’s birth in a multidisciplinary pro
 duction that reclaims her history and honors her resilience.\n\nThis free p
 erformance is presented as one of Morgan State University's Black History M
