Since We've Been Here: Commemorating 400 Years of African Presence in America

A multi-media musical production that honors and examines the experiences of and acknowledges the presence of Africans in the Americas over the last 400 years.  Performances and presentations will be in the form of:
  • Dance
  • Spoken Word
  • Music
Featuring an original music composition by acclaimed musician and composer, Benny Russell [MSU '81]

This event showcases Morgan State University's participation in a program of activities as established by a 15-member commission--chartered by the 400 Years of African-American History Commission Act, that was signed into law by Congress in January, 2018.  The Commission's purpose is to plan, develop, and carry out programs and activities throughout the U.S. that--among other goals-- recognize and highlight the cultural contributions of Africans and African Americans over 400 years and acknowledge the impact that slavery and institutional racism has had on the United States.
