This acclaimed composition by Ernesto Lecuona, with libretto by Gustavo Sanchez Galarraga, is set in Havana, Cuba during the 19th century colonial period. Its storyline revolves around an interracial love affair involving a mulata freedwoman, Maria, who's pursued by suitors of differing socio-economic levels. There is enough passion, betrayal and revenge to propel the tale to its tragic conclusion.
Opera@Morgan's artistic director is Ms. Marquita Lister. The production's stage manager is Ms. Anamer Castrello.
