Join the Revolution!

Theatre Morgan is excited to invite you, MSU Students, Faculty, and Staff, to participate in our upcoming Open Art (open mic) event, created to celebrate the legacy of the Black Arts Movement*. This event is a wonderful opportunity to share your talents with the university community and contribute to a vibrant evening of expression, entertainment and engagement.

Date: Friday, March 8, 2024

Time: 7:00 pm

Location: Morgan State University in the Murphy Fine Arts Center’s Turpin-Lamb Theater

Participants will:

  • Share work from artists of the Black Arts Movement.
  • Share their work that is inspired by or reflects the values and aesthetics of the Black Arts Movement.
  • Limited to two pieces/ 7 minutes total performance time.

*The goal of The Black Arts Movement as described  by Amiri Baraka was “to create an art, a literature that would fight for black people's liberation with as much intensity as Malcolm X our 'Fire Prophet', and the rest of the enraged masses who took to the streets.”
