About this Event
Join us for the Mitchell Quarles African American History month convocation. This is our second convocation unbound – utilizing students from across campus to share their thoughts, films, and reflections on African American history. President Wilson instituted the 2020-2021 convocation theme as From Till to Taylor to Floyd Black Struggles for Liberation and Dignity. Our convocation unbound will feature an interview with Dr. Charles Chavis is the Founding Director of the John Mitchell, Jr. Program for History, Justice, and Race at George Mason University’s Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution, where he is also an Assistant Professor of Conflict Analysis and Resolution and History. Dr. Chavis is also the author of the book The Silent Shore: The Lynching of Matthew Williams and the Politics of Racism in the Free State.
