DESCRIPTION:The Mental Health Association of Maryland\, in collaboration wi
th Bowie State University\, Coppin State University\, Morgan State Universi
ty\, and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore\, has launched a four-yea
r initiative to train thousands of students\, faculty\, and staff across ea
ch campus in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). (MHFA) is an international pub
lic awareness curriculum that works to destigmatize conversations around me
ntal health while providing a tangible action plan for participants to addr
ess crisis and non-crisis mental health situations - much like CPR/first ai
d supports physical health situations. MHFA is proven to increase the likel
ihood of bystander helping behaviors\, but also increases the learner's own
mental health literacy. \n\nOne of the thriving initiatives of Morgan Stat
e's Mental Health Task Force\, which is chaired by Dr. Anita Wells\, is hos
ting MHFA training campus-wide. The Task Force will host a virtual MHFA Inf
ormation Session for grad students this Thursday\, October 20 from 1:30-2:3
 0 pm.
