DESCRIPTION:Using Propensity Score Methods with Administrative Data: An Exa
mple from the Maryland Longitudinal Data System by\n\n\nDr. Angela Henneb
 erger\nDirector of Research\, Maryland Longitudinal Data System Center\, a
nd Research Assistant Professor\, University of Maryland School of Social
Work\n\nResearchers\, practitioners\, and policy makers are often interest
ed in the effects of a program or policy on student outcomes. However\, ef
fects specific to a program or policy are difficult to examine in the abse
nce of randomization to treatment and control groups. Quasi-experimental d
esigns\, including propensity score methods\, can be used to statistically
mimic randomization. Dr. Henneberger will apply this approach using data
from the Maryland Longitudinal Data System (MLDS) to examine the effects o
f dual enrollment program participation in high school on college and work
force outcomes. The strengths and limitations of using this approach with
administrative data will be discussed.\n\nFeel free to bring your brown ba
g lunch!\n\nThis talk is sponsored by the following Morgan State Universit
