DESCRIPTION:SUSTAINABILITY: PRACTICE IN INDIA\n\n11 years of my work and li
fe in India after retirement from Morgan. Establishment of Environment Cent
er for Art and Craft at Nadigram Ashram where I reside. Environment\nCentre
for Arts and Design\, known as ECAD\, has been born out of one of Nandigra
m’s aspirations to promote sustainable way of life. Considering the fascina
tion with the technology\, new building materials and construction methodol
ogies\, the traditional regional art and craft\, historically a usable skil
l\, for too long in recent past\, has been put on a back burner and or is a
vailable to privileged few. It needs to be brought back into the mainstream
of livelihood. ECAD centre will strive to combine new technology with art
and craft to bring about a new way to look at what is most expedient for su
stainable practices.\n\nBIO\nParekh obtained his Bachelor of Architecture f
rom the University of Mumbai\, India\, before moving to the U.S. where he r
eceived his Master’s in City and Regional Planning from Clemson University
in 1970. Parekh taught architecture at Morgan State University from 1981 un
til June 2010. Parekh\nserved as a coordinator of Master of Architecture pr
ogram at the Institute of Architecture and Planning (IAP) at Morgan\, and a
cted as an acting dean of the IAP in 2008-09 before retiring in 2010. Parek
h and Kathleen Sturghill-Sherrill began an architectural practice together

e Baltimore AIA chapter in 2006. Parekh retired from the practice in 2008.
