About this Event
BIG IN CHINA
Immediately after receiving his master’s degree in Architecture from Morgan (M.Arch '07), Matthew Richardson relocated to Europe working for 4 years on several European and Middle East projects. He then relocated to Asia, working for the last 11 years for foreign design offices on large scale Chinese projects. This pattern of never settling in one home has allowed him to work as an architect in 6 international cities and travel to over 50 countries. Matthew would love to share his experiences and he hopes his stories can help inspire architects and students that there are a multitude of possibilities by following your desire to improve the built environment.
BIO
Prior to his career in architecture, attended film school at UMBC working as a motorcycle mechanic, a filmmaker and a musician. After receiving his degree, he worked as a carpenter/contractor while studying design at MICA, UMCP and finally Morgan State University. Matthew is currently working as a Design Leader at the Beijing office of Woods Bagot, building on his experience training in some leading international practices - most notably Zaha Hadid Architects, Foster + Partners, Cecil Balmond, Enrique Miralles/Benedetta Tagliabue, and Gensler, as well as internships in Baltimore with Parameter and Ziger/Snead.
