Tarrin Morgan II (Founding Esports Director & Head Coach; Director of Marketing & Digital Engagement; Professor), Dr. Douglas Gwynn (Director of the Office of Residence Life & Housing), and Mr. Joseph Queen (Director of Networking & Communications Services) will be presenting at the 2023 Hewlett-Packard HBCU Technology Conference!

Session Title - Esports: The Campus Game Changer

Abstract:

Esports is sweeping the collegiate landscape at a fast pace.  It not only meets students where they are, which is in the digital realm, but offers them many professional, social, and developmental opportunities.  The positive impact of esports doesn’t stop with the students as there is a trickle out effect where many other departments benefit as well.

This presentation will introduce you to the Morgan State University Esports Program which was founded in October 2020 but has quickly become a trailblazer in HBCU esports.  The MSU Bears have 220+ members, won 11 championships, and secured around $350,000 in donations, scholarships, and winnings.  You will learn about the “trickle out” effect that the esports program has had on the Office of Residence Life & Housing in addition to the Division of Information Technology.
