On Monday, November 4th, at 6 p.m., Morgan will host the world-renowned Afro-Itallian movie director, screenwriter, and actress Daphne Di Cinto, who will present her groundbreaking historical movie short film "IL MORO."

IL MORO is a groundbreaking feature story about Alessandro de Medici, Duke of the Florentine Republic from 1530-37 and the first Black Head of State of the modern Western World during the Renaissance, and it is valuable to engage students with the important discussion about the African Diaspora in Italy and Europe, remapping blackness in Europe, as well as important social and historical issues related to integration and belonging in relation to race, gender, and identity.

Daphne Di Cinto is a young Afro-Italian screenwriter, director, and actor who also played Sarah Basset in the Netflix series Bridgerton. The movie has received several awards, was featured at the Cannes Film Festival, and was longlisted as the Best Live Action Short Film for the 96th Academy Awards in Hollywood.

We are very grateful for the support offered by the Department of English, the Dept. of World Languages, the College of Liberal Arts and last but not least the Istituto italiano di Cultura di Washington D.C. who also sponsored this event.
