The Department of English and Language Arts proudly presents our Public Lecture Program at the Enoch Pratt Free Library (Central Branch) on April 26, 2026. Jeffrey Andrew Weinstock, keynote speaker, is a professor of English at Central Michigan University, the Los Angeles Review of Books editor in charge of horror, and the founder and president of the Society for the Study of the American Gothic. He has published 29 books, more than 100 essays, and book chapters on the Gothic, horror, monsters, cult films, and other related
topics. Dr. Weinstock's talk about Edgar Allan Poe's work will be followed by a Q&A. Alex Zavistovich, Founder & Artistic Director of The National Edgar Allan Poe Theatre, will be reading "The Raven." Dwight Cook from Theatre Morgan & The National Edgar Allan Poe Theatre will speak about his upcoming Poe performance. Tour guides from Poe House Baltimore will read one of Poe's works and discuss Maryland's first Literary Landmark. A private tour of the Poe collection for Morgan's students will follow the event.  Two buses are leaving McKeldin at 11:30 am and will return to the university at 4:00 pm the same day so that students and faculty may attend the event. Parking is also available at the Enoch Pratt Free Library (Central Branch).  The event is free and open to the public.
