Is Latin language and culture relevant today in relation to our contemporary law and politics? Did you know that both Roe v. Wade and Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization utilized Graeco-Roman history from Latin sources in their arguments to overturn previous landmark decisions? How/why is historical context used in Supreme court decisions? This interactive talk and discussion will also feature Latin 102 students who will examine and discuss these questions by focusing on the role played by language, history, and politics in landmark decisions from the US. Supreme Court. This talk will not promote or discredit neither of those landmark decisions but open a discussion about "judicious" use of scholarship in law while building persuasive arguments.
