College Discovery Academy 2018 Student Summer Jobs ( On Campus)

We are looking for Morgan State University student to hire for the summer (June 2018-August 2018) all positions are 35 hours per week and $12 per hour

College Discovery Academy: Summer Counselors

We are looking for Counselors to be apart of our College Discovery Academy. To provide leadership to a group (up to 12) of scholars. To supervise scholars participating in structured academic, life skill, college/ career prep workshops, and activities, and to interact appropriately with scholars in a variety of situations. Candidates must display demonstrate patience, enthusiasm, self-control and a sense of humor with scholars. 

Responsibilities

  • To work with and provide leadership to a group (up to 12) of scholars guiding them through daily life skills, workshops, and group activities.
  • Conduct group tutoring (up to 12) in Common Core Math, Reading/writing, PSAT/SAT prep and/or HSA Prep
  • Complete 18 hours of training
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members to help make the College Discovery Academy run safely and effectively
  • Abide by College Discovery personnel policies and implement program goals by modeling mentor and ethical lifestyle
  • Assist in leading programmed activities when necessary
  • Assist in all- group program activities as assigned by the Program Coordinator 
  • Be responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of scholars in general, and specifically, your assigned scholar group
  • All counselors should report to the financial manager for breakfast, lunch, and bus pass distribution and any financial obligation ( i.e catering and other duly noted tasks)
  • All counselors should report to the Education Facilitator and Summer College Prep Facilitator 

Requirements

  • Must be a Morgan State University undergraduate student and at least have the classification of a sophomore 
  • Possess a desire and love to work with people of all ages, especially youth. 
  • Ability to use positive behavior management techniques with scholars and staff with an ability to adapt to difficult situations with a sense of maturity, safety, tact and poise
  • Ability to tutor small group( at least 12) in Common Core Math, Reading/writing, PSAT/SAT prep and/or HSA Prep
  • Must be available: Training May 2018, June 2018: Friday 12pm-2pm and Saturdays 8:30 am-4:30 pm (10 hr per week) July 2018 and early August 2018 Monday - Friday 8am-4pm ( 35 hours per week)
  • $12 per hour

College Discovery Academy: Activities Facilitator

We are looking for a responsible Activities Facilitator to perform a variety of administrative and clerical tasks. Duties of the Summer College Prep Facilitator include providing support to the College Discovery coordinators and staff, assisting in daily office needs and managing the College Discovery Academy scholar activities during the summer program. The ideal candidate should have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to organize their work using tools, like MS Excel and office equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Handle administrative requests and queries from coordinator.
  • Write and distribute email, correspondence memos, letters, faxes and forms as needed
  • Assist in the preparation of regularly scheduled reports and data
  • Develop and maintain a filing system.
  • Identify and prioritize materials and equipment needed in college prep and career awareness workshops and activities
  • Facilitate career and college topics, workshops, and activities for College Discovery Participants.
  • Gathers and compiles data for reports including grant required documentation.
  • Maintains and updates database information.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an administrative assistant, virtual assistant or office admin assistant
  • Requires ability to use abstract reasoning, problem-solving, planning, and analytical skills in training, evaluation, and program development;
  • Knowledge of office management systems and procedures
  • Working knowledge of office equipment, like printers and fax machines
  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular)
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask
  • Have knowledge and experience in the philosophy and practices of young adolescents, Middle school and High school education and college prep
  • Have education or experience in collaborating with parents in the education of their children

College Discovery Academy:  Special Events Coordinator 
Working in collaboration with the Office of Community Service Director, this exceptional individual will provide leadership in the planning, coordination, and evaluation of College Discovery Academy Special events.

RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Director of Community Service
Day-to-Day Direction: Data Entry Personnel
Other internal contacts: Students, staff and faculty
External contacts: Volunteers, community members, external business contact,
contracted State legislators, and other organizations


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
1. Event Coordination:
a) Coordinates fundraising of institutional and special donor events which involves decision
making input on external resources, managing event processes, coordinating meetings,
preparing, monitoring and distributing event budgets.
b) Liaises with College leadership, event Committees and the Community Relations
department on the development of media, marketing materials, announcements, photo
opportunities and speech writing.
c) Assists in developing new events, and maintains, organizes fundraisers and special events from concept to completion, ensuring they operate
smoothly, efficiently, and generate maximum revenue and exposure.
d) Responsible for all communications and networking in support of special events, and assists with the development of new opportunities to build community awareness.
e) Responds to inquiries from the public about events, including assisting with media
Requests.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
• two years of experience in special events planning, preferably in the not-for-profit sector.
• The ability to work well independently on several projects concurrently, and possess excellent
communication, organizational and creative thinking skills.
• Experience in planning and implementing events including expertise in attracting sponsorships;
proven track record in developing and implementing promotion plans; print production expertise
associated with fundraising events
• Software proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, is required; knowledge and
experience in the Raisers Edge database program is preferred
• Extensive experience working with executive, donors, and volunteers and managing, supervising
and orientating people for events.
• Excellent written and oral interpersonal communication with marketing and communications
skills; media relations experience is an asset
• Strong initiative and customer service orientation; volunteer management skills an asset
• Project Management, organizational and prioritizing skills; problem-solving and organizational
skills; attention to detail is imperative
• Demonstrated high energy level and flexibility, pleasant persona coupled with sound judgment;
flexible, discreet and able to maintain confidential information, knowledge of correct protocol for
specific situations.
• Office administration experience.

35 hours a week $12.00 per hr
