Simpson, DrPH, MPH and Dr. Clifford S. Mitchell, MS, MD, MPH, from Maryland’s Department of Health’s Environmental Health Bureau. This event introduces the Environmental Health Specialist Apprenticeship Program—a unique partnership between the Maryland Department of Health and Morgan State University’s College of Interdisciplinary and Continuing Studies (CICS).

Learn about an incredible dual-learning opportunity designed to prepare you to become a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) through the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA). This program combines paid on-the-job training as an MDH employee with academic coursework at Morgan State, providing you with the experience, mentorship, and skills needed for a career in environmental health.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Education: Minimum of 60 college credits or an Associate’s Degree.
  • Residency: Maryland resident, 18 years or older with a valid driver’s license.
  • Skills: Strong foundation in environmental health basics and effective communication.

Program Pathway

Over two years, you’ll complete coursework, hands-on fieldwork, and professional development through MDH seminars. Upon completion, you’ll be ready to take the NEHA REHS/RS certification exam, setting you up for a fulfilling career in environmental health.
