Devin Allen is a self-taught, American photographer, photojournalist, and social justice activist based in Baltimore, Maryland. He gained national attention after the Freddie Gray protests in 2015, when his documentary photograph entitled "Baltimore Uprising" was published as Time magazine's May 2015 cover photo. His documentary photo of the George Floyd protests was published as Time's June 2020 cover.

In 2017, he was named the first fellow of the Gordon Parks Foundation Fellowship and was nominated for an NAACP Image Award as a debut author for his book, A Beautiful Ghetto (Haymarket Books).

Devin’s powerful imagery of Black life has been featured in New York Magazine, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Aperture.

JELMA welcomes Devin Allen to speak on his life, inspiration, and storytelling through film. This Artist Talk session will be an open-discussion, welcome to all students, faculty, staff, and creative patrons. Attendance is free to the general public.
